This week for {CCBG #31} I am going back to revisit my Painted and Stenciled Chair Bench and show you how I made my own stencil and transferred the image using chalk. Make sure you scroll down and read all about my Featured Post of the Week at the bottom of this post but first…here are the details on the first time I made my own stencil and how I added it to my chair bench.
Making Your Own Stencil and Transferring the Image with Chalk
After my sweet hubby added boards and create a sitting area for my bench I knew I wanted to stencil something onto the seat. There are tons of inexpensive throw pillows {aff link} available on Amazon with fun, quirky quotes and images. I saw one that said “sit and stay awhile” and it stuck with me for this stenciled chair bench.
I printed my quote using MS Publisher and used the banner template. After I got the letters to the height and length that fit my bench seat, I printed the pages and them together to create one long image. I rubbed the back of the banner with chalk before I taped it to the chair bench with painters tape.
Since I was stenciling onto a dark surface the chalk transfer method worked perfectly for this project. I used a pencil and traced around each letter thus leaving a chalk outline onto the seat of my chair bench. After my words were transferred to the chair bench seat I filled them in with chalk paint and gave it a light sanding after it dried for a distressed look.
There are many different types of techniques used to make your own stencil but I was quite pleased with the simplicity of this technique which is very similar to the carbon transfer technique I have seen other people use when painting signs. Creative Craft Bloggers Group Link Party #31
How does a link party work?
Every Thursday a group of my crafty friends will host a new link party. By linking your recent homemade project to the bottom of this post a thumbnail image will be added to the collage with a link to your blog so that we can visit your blog and see what you have been making.
Your project could be featured!
Each week one of my crafty friends and myself will choose our personal favorite link of the week. If you are featured on one of our blogs, grab this button and share the good news with your crafty friends. {Put the button on your blog and share it on Facebook too.} Featured posts will also be added to the Creative Craft Bloggers Group Pinterest Board.
Make sure you visit my fellow Co-Hosts to see all the fun and crafty things they have to share with you as well as their featured guest post of the week.

My Featured Post of the Week
A few weeks ago I participated in a chalk mix paint challenge where a group of my friends used the Chalk Mix provided to us by the Diva of DIY and we all shared our projects in a group round up. I painted my spindle leg table with a grain sack stenciled top and Lisa from The Purple Hydrangea painted this lamp and shared it in our CCBG link party last week. I absolutely love the shape of this lamp and how she used a dry brush technique for that fabulous look and color. She truly is the Queen of Painting in my book…everything she paints is awesome!
