This rustic wood slice chalkboard has been on my project list since last summer when I acquired 4 slices of cedar wood from a neighbor. I love adding nature to my home décor and these wood slices look great with my twig flower vase.

I used my Martha Stewart Chalkboard Paint Kit {affiliate link} and it worked perfectly for this project. The chalkboard paint went on easily with the paintbrush that was included in the kit. I followed the outline of the rings and left a small boarder around the edge of the wood slice.

What I liked about this particular wood slice was that there was a crack in the middle of the slice. I kept thinking…it’s damaged but still strong. So when it came time to pick a saying I came up with “Cracked But Not Broken” because it perfectly describes how I feel about myself since my son passed away last year…..I am forever damaged but strong….cracked but not broken.

Even though the surface of this wood slice is painted with chalkboard paint the hand lettering was painted on using the technique of printing it on a piece of paper, rubbing the back with a piece of chalk and tracing it onto the wood with a pencil. Then I took some white paint and went over the chalk outline that was transferred onto the wood slice. Unfortunately, I was so excited that the transfer technique worked that I forgot to take a before picture of the transfer and you only get to see the finished rustic wood slice chalkboard. You can visit my Wood Sign Pinterest Board to learn more about this transfer technique.

Creative Craft Bloggers Group Link Party #19

How does a link party work?

Every Thursday a group of my crafty friends will host a new link party. By linking your recent homemade project to the bottom of this post a thumbnail image will be added to the collage with a link to your blog so that  we can visit your blog and see what you have been making.

Your project could be featured!

Each week one of my crafty friends and myself will choose our personal favorite link of the week. If you are featured on one of our blogs, grab this button and share the good news with your crafty friends. {Put the button on your blog and share it on Facebook too.} Featured posts will also be added to the Creative Craft Bloggers Group Pinterest Board.

My Featured Post of the Week

It’s no secret to my friends and family that I have a slight obsession with yardsticks. This Phone and Key Organizer submitted by Lynda at Lynda Creates jumped right off the page at me. Of course I love the yardsticks but she also used a scrabble letter tray as the shelf to hold the phone. Brilliant idea and I can’t wait to recreate this clever project and put my own spin on it.
