Today is the Movie Monday Challenge and our assignment was to make a project based upon any movie associated with school. The inspiration for my decoupaged vintage map letter and framed quote was the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. {Affiliate link} I love this classic 80’s movie not only because I am from Chicago but I too have enjoyed many of Ferris’ favorite activities.
I asked my Facebook readers what comes to mind when they think of Ferris Bueller and there were so many great answers but most said the car scene when they drove through the glass windows. The parade scene when Ferris jumps on the parade float and sings Twist and Shout. The crazy Principal and quirky secretary were another favorite and let’s not forget his sister always trying to catch him cutting school. My personal favorite it Abe Froman the Sausage King of Chicago.
I am currently working on another challenge project that requiBres me to update one room with the budget of $100 so getting creative with inexpensive artwork is really helping me save some money. For this project, the vintage map letter “B” is for Bryant and not Bueller and it will be hanging in our Glamper.

Steps to Make a Vintage Map Letter
- Place your wooden letter on top of the map and trace with a pencil
- Use your scissors to cut letter outline
- Use a foam brush to paint on a layer of Mod Podge onto your wooden letter
- Place your letter cut out onto the wooden letter and smooth out wrinkles with your fingers
- Brush on another coat of mod podge to completely seal and cover the map
- Let dry for 2 hours
As an added bonus I am sharing this free printable quote from Ferris Bueller and it is the last line of the movie too. Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Below is a round up of what my friends did for their back to school movie challenge. You can check out my projects from the the Star Wars Challenge, Wonder Woman Challenge and the Jaws Challenge.
On the last Monday of each month, a group of bloggers participate in a #MovieMondayChallenge, hosted by C’mon Get Crafty! We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful!
Now let’s see what everyone else was inspired to create for this month’s #MovieMondayChallenge!! If you’d like to join our Facebook group, you can request an invite here.

Love you letter but….can you believe I’ve never seen the movie!
OMG…you have to watch it….and 80’s classic.
This is one of my all time fav movies! I love how you used a map to cover the monogram letter–SO creative!
Awwww….thank you very much.
I love this movie, no question. As a fellow Chicago native, do you ever take personal snark in noticing geographical errors? lol
All the time and I love all John Hughes movies with a passion.
I love old maps and have been wanting to create something with them for ages. Fun way to use a Chicago map and get it into your room decor.
I love old maps too. I have done a few projects with maps but this one is my favorite.
Loved this movie and love how you have created something so cool and made it personal!! So creative!!
Thanks so much Sam.
That quote is my favorite. Ferris is much smarter than I, it took me until my 40s to figure it out!
How can you not love Ferris…or this quote. 🙂
I so love this and it’s super special since I grew up in Chicago.
I never knew you were from Chicago. Wow!!!
What great ideas! It sure is a classic movie, and living in the Chicago suburbs I have an affinity for it, too. I’m quite partial to both maps and letters so these are decor items that I would definitely use as well. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
