Whole30 Day 1: Blah-ck Coffee

Whole30 Day 1 Journey

Here we are, Whole30 Day 1. Literally, my eyes opened this morning and my first thought was about a Grande, Non-Fat, No Whip, Mocha from Starbucks. (affiliate link) Then I suddenly remembered that it is April 1st. This isn’t an April Fools Day joke…TODAY is the first day of my Whole30 Challenge and there will be no Starbucks in my near future. {I may have released a tiny sigh and pulled the covers over my head.}

So I dragged my butt out of bed and drank my first {ever} cup of blah-ck coffee. It was so disgusting I went back for a second cup just to confirm that blah-ck coffee only smells good. Honestly, besides my retired Navy husband (who would probably eat coffee grounds sprinkled over a bowl of Captain Crunch), why would anyone want their coffee to taste like coffee?

My Whole30 Fitness {Fitbit Steps}

Today was a busy day of mostly doing errands in the car. Not many steps but I did take two purposeful walks today and I am ending my first day with 5,200 steps on my Fitbit {affiliate link}.

My Whole30 Feelings {Heartburn & Helpers}

I feel like I have been on the verge of having heartburn all day today. I am blaming it on that nasty, blah-ck coffee. Other than that I am feeling fine just as the Whole30 timeline predicted. Oh and here’s a surprise, starting tomorrow 2 of my kids “say” they are going to help me and do the Whole30 Challenge with me. {I think I heard one kid say she quit before she even started once I confirmed bread was on the “no list”.} Regardless, I’ll be happy for any healthy changes they make.

You can follow my journey at Whole30 day 2.

    I sipped hot water with lemon this morning. I think I’ll try some blah-ck coffee in the morning, even just half a cup, to keep the headache at bay.

    I was worried I’d be starving all day, but surprisingly I wasn’t.

    My daughter has agreed to join me on W30 as well! Hopefully she’ll make it further than W2! Haha!

    Yay for day one being behind us! I toast is with a glass of sparkling water with lemon!

      I started today and half-way through the day had THE WORST headache. It didn’t occur to me it was because my body was going through morning-coffee-withdrawls. It is comforting to know I’m not alone. As for the eating, I was surprisingly full all day too and had a hard time finishing my meals 🙂

      Way to go, all! Day 2 for me is tomorrow. I guess I’ll be a day behind.

    I’m so proud of you girls for doing this!!! I’m cheering you on!!!

    While I won’t be doing whole 30, I am cutting out sugar this month. I’ve done it before and I need to do it again. Bring on the headaches….?

    You can do it!! My hubby and I did the Whole 30 about 9 months ago, and it was tough, but manageable. And I was always a cream and sugar coffee person before . .. Ever since the Whole 30 though I drink it black 🙂

    • Denise Bryant says:

      Thanks for the encouragement Melanie. If black coffee is the hardest thing I have to worry about I will be just fine. 🙂

          Michele…I have never liked tea but now might be a good time to start liking it. Thanks for the tip.

      You can do it Ann….just stock up on fruit, veggies…along with meat, fish and chicken.

    We started our first Whole30 yesterday as well. I have had black coffee I liked but it wasn’t available so I opted for tea instead. Had fabulous sugar/coffee withdrawal headache by evening but I think I wil stick it out. At this weight coffee exacerbates heartburn so maybe after the Whole30 (or two) I can add it back in to my daily routine.
