Bow Tie Pasta Soup Made With Red Wine

My mom is an awesome cook and Bow Tie Pasta Soup is one of the many, many recipes she has shared with me. I am forewarning you, there has never been a leftover drop of Bow Tie Pasta Soup because it’s THAT good.

I can’t even explain to you how delicious it is so you are just going to have to trust me and give it a try. No worries if you don’t have a slow cooker, this recipe is meant to be simmered on the stovetop for an hour or two. I personally prefer the stovetop method over the crockpot but if you must, low for 4 hours in the slow cooker will work too.

Before we get started, I think it is only right that I give you a cooking confession. Bless me father for I have never cooked with wine before until I made this bow tie pasta soup. Red wine has literally transformed my soup making world. What on Earth was I waiting for? It adds such a rich layer of flavor to any soup or sauce with a beef or tomato base.

While I am at it, I have another confession. I don’t drink red wine because it reminds me of church wine. For years my friends have diligently tried to sway me from my favorite white wine, Chardonnay, but put some red wine in the soup and I am officially baptized as a church wine drinker. Amen.

In all seriousness, I do hope you give it a try. If you aren’t a fan of red wine you can easily replace it with 2 cups of beef broth and still have a delicious soup.

I am going to add an update. Make sure you cook it long enough to cook off the alcohol taste from the wine. All crock pots are different and it might take longer than what I suggested. When I make it stove top I simmer it for about an hour or a little more….crock pot time should be doubled on high. Enjoy!
